Becoming Part of the CORE

There comes a time when we want to tell the world about what God is doing in our lives.  There comes a time when we want to shout from the rooftops, “This is my church.  This is where God wants me to serve.”

Sure we could just work, attend and be a part of the committed but there is something inside that wants to verbally commit to one another.  When that time comes, let us know that you are ready to be part of the CORE.

The CORE

We wish we had some cute anagram for this but the CORE is simply the people who have committed their lives to the community of believers at Northwest.

What membership standard could we have that is higher than God’s standard.  God is clear on the matter: the only membership that counts is being a member of the body of Christ and we become members of that family when we believe, confess and are saved by Christ.

So we regularly update our list of CORE people to reflect those that are “all in” for God and His work at Northwest.  The CORE represents all of us who can be counted as giving our lives to raise up the other believers and reach the lost in our community.

CORE Character

People that find themselves part of the CORE are people who are attending, serving and giving to support the work among the believers, in the community and around the world.

  • They are attending opportunities to grow, learn and worship.  CORE people have found the beauty of being a part of a living, breathing community and participate in small groups, friendships, Bible Studies and worship.
  • They are serving because they realize that people are what we do.  There is no way to be part of a ministry without mimicking Jesus and serving people.  CORE people are involved in opportunities to help teach, reach, love and help people here, across the street, in the US and around the world.
  • They are giving regular, sacrificial gifts to the work of God through Northwest.  The idea of a tithe (10% giving) is a starting part.  CORE people will make sure that the needs of the ministry are met and prioritize it as part of their stewardship of God’s money.

They are people who have decided to be fully devoted followers of Christ.

CORE Life

People that are part of the CORE receive CORE updates regarding ministry, finances and other issues.  These updates are not sent to all of those that attend Northwest.

People that are part of the CORE are expected to participate in the responsibilities that come along with being committed to the Northwest community.  This, however, is rarely seen as an expectation as CORE people have long since committed to one another’s best interest.

The State of Georgia and other tax and corporate law requires that Northwest keep a roster of members in good standing that are, according to the bylaws, voting members of the secular corporation, Northwest Church.  CORE people are placed on this list and help us act and comply with these secular authorities.

Ways to let us know that you are interested in CORE

We regularly look for people who have practically become part of the CORE at Northwest (they are all in) and add them to the official CORE list.

However, between these times, if you are ready to live the power of commitment and know that God has told you to be part of the CORE, you can:

  • Check the “I am a:  CORE” box at the top of the Connection Card, or
  • Email any staff member.
  • Attend a Power of Commitment Series
  • Enroll in Discipleship
